Phil Clarke is a geoscientist with over 30 years of experience and the Technical Director at Petralon Energy. Throughout his career, he has successfully delivered on a wide range of complex projects, demonstrating exceptional technical acumen and leadership in driving operational excellence.
Philip’s extensive industry experience includes a 20-year tenure at BP, where he held key technical and managerial positions, working on a range of international development and exploration projects. During this time, his leadership contributed to BP’s successful exploration efforts in new markets, and he played a pivotal role in managing strategic business operations and leading exploration teams across regions including Brazil, Algeria, China, and the North Sea.
After leaving BP, Philip embarked on a successful career as a consultant to the industry. He also served as Technical Director of White Rose Energy Ventures LLP from 2011-2012 and subsequently as Head of M&A and New Ventures at Petrobras Oil & Gas B.V. (POGBV) from 2015-2020, where he spearheaded the company’s growth in Africa and led the successful divestment of a 50% stake in POGBV. His leadership in managing critical shareholder relations and technical evaluations helped secure POGBV’s position in the African deepwater sector, with significant producing interests in Nigeria.
In the consultancy field, Philip has he continued to provide a diverse range of technical, economic, and strategic advice to a wide array of oil and gas clients. His expertise spans deepwater exploitation, unconventional resources, and carbon sequestration.
A Chartered Geologist and a Fellow of the Geological Society, Philip holds both a Master’s and a PhD from Cambridge University, where he specialised in the stratigraphy and tectonics of Lower Paleozoic sediments.
