Our commitment to our host communities extends beyond just mere financial considerations and CSR spending. We liaise closely with communities, listening to and understanding what their concerns are and identifying opportunities that will help add value.
We are confident that as the participation of socially responsible indigenous companies increases, Nigeria and its economy will finally realize the transformative effects the oil industry has the potential to deliver.
Our goal is to redefine the relationship between oil companies and their host communities by funding projects identified by the community in areas such as infrastructural development, trainings and educational scholarships, skill acquisition programs, empowerment schemes etc.
We understand that the members of these communities are best placed to determine the areas within the community where the additional resources should be deployed. As a result, we are committed to ensuring that community representatives determine how funds are disseminated and utilized for their communities, thereby putting them in the driving seat.
This strategy empowers the community with the responsibility for their own development and we are confident that we will see them rise to the occasion and drive progress within their communities in crucial areas.
Employment and Development Opportunities
At Petralon, we are notably committed to developing the communities we operate in. Employment is a key part of this development. We understand that with adequate training and employment, we can contribute positively, in a small way, to shaping the development of the communities we operate in.
Over 40 indigenes and youth of our communities were engaged as workers during the Dawes Island well re-entry project and we will continue to explore opportunities where we can provide tangible sustainable benefit to the communities.
