Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Lead and integrate all subsurface technical functions (geology, geophysics, petrophysics, reservoir engineering) to optimise field evaluation, development and production performance, ensuring sound technical decision-making, and alignment with business and regulatory objectives
  • Provide technical leadership and coordination across subsurface and related disciplines to drive value delivery and performance optimisation.
  • Oversee integrated subsurface evaluations following drilling activity and contribute hands-on to reservoir analysis, volumetrics, well performance and uncertainty assessments.
  • Support extended well testing, operational activities and subsurface input to drilling and production optimisation.
  • Manage external consultants, define technical objectives and ensure quality and consistency of multidisciplinary outputs.
  • Provide technical input for investment decisions, appraisals, growth initiatives and due diligence both domestically and internationally.
  • Establish and maintain technical standards, governance frameworks, risk management practices and compliance across subsurface functions.
  • Prepare high-quality technical documentation and presentations for management, regulators and investors, and monitor performance against plans and budgets.

Key Requirements

The ideal candidate must possess:  

  • Ideally a Bachelor’s degree in Geoscience, Petroleum Engineering or related discipline.  
  • Masters or Advanced degree and relevant professional certifications an added advantage.
  • >15 years of relevant experience including marginal field evaluation, appraisal and development planning, with a minimum of 5 years
  • in a comparable role.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver technical projects within a lean organisation.
  • Proven experience managing consultant-driven studies and integrating multidisciplinary inputs.
  • Skilled in utilisation of software and technology for analysis, decision-making, reporting.

Required competencies include:

  • Knowledge of Nigerian oil and gas regulatory frameworks, safety standards, and HSE practices.
  • Deep technical acumen and comfortable working at detailed subsurface level when required— including reserve evaluation, reservoir
  • engineering, drilling and production forecasting and management.
  • Commercially astute and disciplined in resource utilisation.  
  • Growth-oriented, with the ability to assess and mature new opportunities.
  • Ability to interpret subsurface data, support field development plans, and optimise technical workflows, synthesise complex technical
  • information and produce actionable insights.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and balance technical, safety, and commercial priorities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills (i.e. communication, stake holder/relationship management).
  • Self-driven with an entrepreneurial mindset.  
  • Strong collaboration orientation to work and lead across teams and functional boundaries.
  • Attention to detail.
